Stern of Amherst Named Swimmer of the Meet for Second Time
HADLEY, Mass. – The NESCAC announced today the 2009-10 Women’s Swimming and Diving All-Conference Team. The top three finishers in each event at the 2010 NESCAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship received All-Conference recognition.
Amherst junior Kendra Stern (Albuquerque, N.M.) earned Swimmer of the Meet honors for the second time in three years. Stern rewrote her own championship records with victories in the 100, 200 and 500-yard Freestyle events and was also part of three relay teams that finished second to help the Jeffs place second overall. Bates senior Katelyn Drake (Hudson, Ohio) came away with Four-Year High Point Swimmer, as she placed second in the 50-yard Backstroke and was fourth in the 100 and 200-yard Backstroke races at this year’s NESCAC Meet.
Sophomore Meagan Collins (Darien, Conn.) of Middlebury garnered Diver of the Meet with a win in the 3-meter Diving competition and a second place showing in the 1-meter. Tufts senior Lindsay Gardel (Wayland, Mass.) earned Four Year High-Point Diving honors, winning the 1-meter Diving event.
NESCAC Swimming Coach of the Year honors went to Steven Kuster of Williams for the sixth time, as he guided the Ephs to their 10th consecutive conference crown by the largest margin of victory in meet history (578). Kuster most recently won the award in 2008. Diving Coach of the Year was bestowed upon Middlebury’s Lisa Gibbs. Gibbs last earned the honor in 2005.
