BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Williams
College men's and women's track teams defended their respective
titles at the 2006 NESCAC Track and Field Championship Saturday
afternoon at the John J. Magee Track on the campus of Bowdoin
College. It is the sixth straight conference crown for both the men
and women's teams from Williams.
On the women's side, Williams was led by Katie Fulton, who claimed
the 100-meter dash (12.72) and 200 meter dash (25.68).Katie Howard
won the 400-meter dash (58.79) for the Ephs. Williams also won the
4x100 and 4x400 meter relays. Kristin Moss won the high jump
(1.68m) with Caroline Doctor winning the long and triple-jump
events.
Amanda White of Trinity won the 100-meter hurdles (15.64), while
Izzy Alexander of Bates claimed the 400 hurdles (1:04.95). Katy
O'Brien won the 800-meter event for Tufts (2:14.65) and teammate
Catherine Beck captured the 1500 meters (4:35.4). Tufts also won
the 4x800 meter relay. The 5,000 meters went to Shauneen Garrahan
from Amherst (17:08.38) with the 10,000 meters going to Jessica
Minty of Colby (36:45.06).Garrahan also claimed the 3000-meter
steeplechase in a NESCAC record time of 10:40.9.
In the women's field events, Keelin Godsey dominated the throwing
competitions, taking the hammer, shot put and discus. Middlebury
picked up a pair of field event wins as Emer Feighery claimed a win
in the pole vault (3.05m) with teammate Mary Frederickson taking
the javelin (37.12).
The Ephs were equally impressive on the men's side, with Andrew
Arons winning the 100-meter dash (11.00) and 200-meter dash
(22.12). Mike Davitian set a NESCAC record in the 1500-meters
(3:53.4), while Chris Beeler won the 800-meters (1:54.25). Williams
also won the 4x100 relay event, while Branden Mirach set a NESCAC
mark in the triple jump (14.41) and also won the long jump (6.89m).
Dan Austin rounded out the Williams winners, taking both the shot
put (15.5m) and the discus (57.55m).
Other winners included Middlebury's Kevin Bright winning both the
400-meters (49.15) and 400-meter hurdles (53.34). Tufts' Matt Lacey
took the 5,000-meters (14:55.25), Wesleyan's Alex Battaglino won
the 10,000 (31:24.80), Trinity's Chris Orr in the 110-meter hurdles
(15.35) and Connecticut College's Brian Murtagh in the steeplechase
(9:27.39).
Bates claimed the 4x400 meter relay, while Bowdoin's distance
medley relay team of Tim Katlic, Steve Bartus, Jay McCormick and
Owen McKenna gave the hosts their lone win of the day.
In the field events, Tufts' Jeremy Arak won the high jump (1.98),
while Hamilton's James Russell claimed the pole vault (4.11).
Tufts' Jason Galvin won the hammer throw event with a toss of
54.74, while Kristoph Becker of Middlebury won the javelin with a
distance of 60.16m.
