2000-01 Women's Basketball Players of the Week
March 5, 2001
Kristi Royer, Bowdoin
(Sophomore, Forward - Lewiston, Maine)
Royer averaged 22.5 points and 13.0 rebounds in two NCAA road wins
as Bowdoin advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time in school
history. She scored 23 points and grabbed a career-high 17 boards
in a 61-53 win over Eastern Connecticut in the first round. Royer
scored 22 points and pulled down nine rebounds in a 72-65 overtime
win at Salem State in the second round. In the two games, she
finished 18-of-18 from the free throw line and has made 27
consecutive free throws, dating back to the NESCAC Championship
game.
Sarah Walsh,
Colby
(Sophomore, Forward - Cantonsville, Md.)
Walsh was named the Most Valuable Player in leading Colby to the
ECAC New England Championship title. She scored 14 points and
pulled down 12 rebounds in a 62-58 title game win over Wellesley.
She scored 12 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and recorded four
steals in an 80-64 semifinal win over host Amherst. Walsh scored 15
points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds in a 75-60 win over
Bates in the first round.
February 26, 2001
Lora Trenkle, Bowdoin
(Freshman, Guard - Surry, Maine)
Trenkle averaged 17.3 points per game to lead Bowdoin to the NESCAC
title. She scored a game-high 15 points in a 58-47 first-round win
over Middlebury, and tallied a game-high 22 points in a 63-51
semifinal win over Colby. In a 54-41 championship game victory over
host Amherst, Trenkle scored a game-high 15 points, including 10 in
the second half.

Shannon Russell, Amherst
(Freshman, Guard - Shrewsbury, Mass.)
Russell led Amherst to the top seed in the NESCAC tournament,
averaging 21.5 points in two wins. She scored a team-high 15
points, including two key free throws with 29.8 seconds left, in a
50-44 win over Bowdoin. Russell scored a career-high 28 points,
hitting six of nine 3-pointers, and recorded five steals in a 71-59
victory over Colby to clinch the top seed.

Kristin Hanley, Middlebury
(Sophomore, Forward - Seattle, Wash.)
Hanley averaged 21.6 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game
as Middlebury won two of three games. She scored 24 points in an
82-70 win over Hamilton, scored 21 points in a one-point loss to
Bates, and finished with 20 points in a 69-67 road win over Tufts.
Kate McCloskey, Trinity
(Sophomore, Center - Uxbridge, Mass.)
McCloskey averaged 21.0 points and 8.7 rebounds as Trinity won two
of three games, posting back-to-back NESCAC wins over Connecticut
College and Wesleyan. She shot 70 percent from the field and 78
percent from the free throw line.

Sarah Bergman, Amherst
(Freshman, Forward - Shaftsbury, Vt.)
Bergman averaged 21.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in two Amherst wins,
shooting 75 percent from the field. She scored 20 points, grabbed
eight rebounds, and blocked three shots in a win over New England
College. Bergman scored a career-high 23 points, pulled down 12
rebounds, and blocked three shots in a victory over Trinity.
January 29, 2001
Sarah Walsh, Colby
(Sophomore, Forward - Catonsville, Md.)
Walsh averaged 18.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game
as Colby posted wins over Williams and Middlebury. She scored 24
points, grabbed 12 rebounds, handed out five assists, and shot 57.1
percent from the field in an 84-70 win over Williams. She finished
with 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists in a 71-63 victory
over Williams.
January 22, 2001
Kristi Royer, Bowdoin
(Sophomore, Forward - Lewiston, Maine)
Royer averaged 19.3 points and 12.3 rebounds in three road wins for
Bowdoin. She shot 69 percent from the field (18-of-26) and
connected on four of five 3-pointers. She scored 20 points and
grabbed 11 rebounds in a 68-65 win over Colby, finished with 19
points and 14 boards in an 88-67 victory over Wesleyan, and scored
20 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in an 85-41 win over
Connecticut College.
Liz Tilley,
Williams
(Senior, Point Guard - Queens, N.Y.)
Tilley led Williams to a 3-0 week, including two NESCAC victories.
She scored a game-high 26 points and handed out three assists in an
81-79 win at Amherst. Tilley finished with 20 points, seven
assists, and two steals in a 75-56 win over Trinity.
January 15, 2001
Kate McLaughlin, Bates
(Senior, Forward - Laconia, N.H.)
McLaughlin averaged 24.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game as Bates
knocked off two teams ranked in the NEWBA Top 10, fourth-ranked
Colby and top-ranked Babson. She scored 26 points in a 75-74
overtime win over Colby, including the team's last four points of
regulation and six of the team's eight points in overtime.
McLaughlin scored a team-high 22 points, including seven points in
the final three minutes, in a 69-58 victory over Babson.

Liz Tilley, Williams
(Senior, Point Guard - Queens, N.Y.)
Tilley was named the Most Valuable Player of the Williams Winter
Classic as the Ephs defeated WPI and previously undefeated Babson,
the top-ranked team in the NEWBA poll. She scored a career-high 30
points in the 67-59 title game win over Babson. She scored 12
points and handed out six assists in the first-round win over WPI.
December 11, 2000
Emily Goodman, Tufts
(Sophomore, Center - Briarcliff, N.Y.)
Goodman averaged 22.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in two Tufts wins.
She scored 29 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a 67-59 win over
Regis, and finished with 16 points and nine boards in a 63-50 road
win over Wheaton. She made nine of 10 free throws in the two games.
December 4, 2000
Lora Trenkle, Bowdoin
(Freshman, Guard - Surry, Maine)
Trenkle averaged 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.5
steals in two games for Bowdoin. She scored 24 points and grabbed
seven rebounds as the Polar Bears defeated Southern Maine for the
first time since 1981. In a road loss to undefeated Babson, she hit
five of seven 3-pointers. For the week, she made 13 of 22 field
goal attempts (59.1 percent), including 7-of-10 from three-point
range.
November 27, 2000
Emily Goodman, Tufts
(Sophomore, Forward - Briarcliff, N.Y.)
With Tufts down to eight players because of injuries, Goodman
carried the load with 31 points on 14 of 20 shooting and nine
rebounds. She helped the Jumbos shoot 52 percent from the field for
the game, a season-opening 70-62 victory over Johnson & Wales.
