Women's Ice Hockey Championship Field Announced
Defending Champ Bowdoin to Host Final Rounds for Second-Consecutive Season
HADLEY, Mass. - After finishing the regular season with a 15-1 regular season mark, Bowdoin earned the top seed in the 2005 NESCAC Women’s Ice Hockey tournament. The Polar Bears, with an overall record of 19-3-1, will have a first round bye and will host the semifinal and final rounds for the second consecutive season in Brunswick, Maine beginning Saturday, March 5.
Middlebury (14-1-1 NESCAC, 19-2-1 overall) is the tournament’s second seed and will host seventh-seeded Trinity (4-11-1 NESCAC, 9-12-1 overall) on Saturday, February 26 in one of three NESCAC first round contests. The Panthers, ranked second nationally, are the defending NCAA Division III Champions.
Third seed Williams (10-4-2 NESCAC, 12-8-2 overall) will host sixth seed Colby (5-8-3 NESCAC, 7-10-3 overall). Williams, ranked 10th nationally in the latest USCHO.com poll, split with Colby during two regular season tilts losing in Waterville 1-2 in the first game of the year and defeating the Mules 4-3 in Williamstown.
Fifth-seeded Amherst (6-7-3 NESCAC, 8-11-5 overall) will travel to fourth-seeded Hamilton (7-6-3 NESCAC, 9-11-3 overall) for the second consecutive season. Hamilton defeated the Jeffs last year in the first round of the NESCAC tournament, but split with Amherst this season
The top seven teams qualify for the NESCAC Championship. First round games will be played on Saturday, February 26 and winners will advance to the semifinals at Bowdoin on Saturday, March 5. Teams are re-bracketed entering the semifinal round with number one seed Bowdoin playing the lowest remaining seed. The NESCAC tournament champion receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Championship.
