Bowdoin Claims 2-1 Victory Over Williams in Women's Ice Hockey Semifinals

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – For the fifth consecutive season, Bowdoin has advanced to the NESCAC title game. The Polar Bears will take on Middlebury, a 3-1 winner over Colby, in the NESCAC Championship game at 1:00 on Sunday.
Both teams had some great chances early, with Bowdoin breaking through at 15:38 with a power play goal. Julie King gained some room at the right wing, firing a low hard shot to the far post for the 1-0 lead. Bowdoin ended the period with a 12-7 shots advantage.
Williams tied the game at 7:55 of the second, as Ashley Wood found Abby Taylor in the high slot, before Taylor wristed a shot past Emleigh Mercer. Bowdoin had a pair of power play opportunities in the period, but could not regain the lead.
Bowdoin scored the game-winner midway through the third period as Katie Forney’s shot was saved by Mercer. Katie Coyne took a poke at the loose puck in the crease, before it squirted in off the skate of a defender. Williams pulled Denise McCulloch with 1:44 remaining, and then had a five-on-three power play goal for the final :29, but could not score the equalizer.
Mercer ended the night with 20 saves for Bowdoin, while McCulloch made 28 saves for Williams.
