Bowdoin Skates Past Trinity in Women's Ice Hockey First Round, 3-1

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's
ice hockey team advanced to the NESCAC Semifinals with a 3-1
victory over Trinity in the Quarterfinals on Saturday evening. The
second-seeded Polar Bears (17-6-2) will play third-seeded Amherst
at 4 p.m. next Saturday in the conference semifinals at Middlebury
College. The Bantams end their season with a record of 8-16-1.
The Polar Bears got on the board first with a goal at 11:17 of the
opening period. Kristen Cameron backhanded a pass to Julia King,
who ripped a shot that was deflected by Kara Kelley into the goal
for a 1-0 Bowdoin advantage. The Bantams managed to tie the score
shortly before the break when Michelle Chee intercepted a pass and
scored on a breakaway to deadlock the game heading into the first
intermission.
Bowdoin scored twice late in the second period, as Caroline Currie
one-timed a feed from Scooter Walsh into the lower left-corner for
a 2-1 Polar Bear lead at 16:54. Jayme Woogerd scored the Polar
Bears' final goal at 19:38 of the second frame.
Emileigh Mercer made the lead stand for Bowdoin, stopping all seven
shots she saw in the final stanza as she finished with 12 saves for
the game. Isabel Iwachi was outstanding in goal for Trinity,
stopping 41 shots in defeat.
The meeting between Amherst and Bowdoin next Saturday will be the
third of the season between the squads. The Polar Bears beat the
Jeffs 8-5 on November 18 in Amherst and rallied to salvage a 3-3
tie in Brunswick on January 19.
