Colby Earns 3-1 Win Over Connecticut College in Women's Ice Hockey

WATERVILLE, Maine -Stephanie Scarpato (Osterville, Mass.) made an impact in her first collegiate playoff game with two goals as the Colby College women's hockey team took a 3-1 win over Connecticut College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference quarterfinal game Saturday at Alfond Rink.

The fourth-seeded Mules (14-8-3) will travel to Middlebury College next Saturday for a semifinal game against a to be determined opponent. Connecticut College, the fifth seed, ends the season at 7-14-4.

After battling to 2-2 and 3-3 ties during the regular season, Colby and the Camels were scoreless after the opening period. Scarpato, a first-year forward, tallied at 3:21 of the second period on the power play off an assist from junior forward Amanda Comeau (Southbury, Conn.).

Connecticut College tied the game at 1-1 when Rachel Lindmark (Andover, Mass.) scored about five minutes after Scarpato's goal.

Colby's Heather Nickerson (Falmouth, Mass.) got an unassisted goal that proved to be the game-winning tally at 12:03 of the second period.

Scarpato, who missed six games earlier this season with an injury, got her eighth goal of the season at 11:36 of the third period.

Lacey Brown (Freeport, Maine) finished with 22 stops in goal for the Mules. Brown has allowed just three goals in her last five starts.

Sara Christopher (Andover, Mass.) made 26 saves for Connecticut College.
