2008 NESCAC Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week

Becky Julian, Colby
(Junior, Attacker - South Windsor, Conn.)
Julian tallied seven goals and added an assist in helping the Mules capture the 2008 NESCAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship, the first in program history. Against Middlebury on Saturday, Julian had four goals in a 10-8 victory. She scored three goals and an assist in Sunday’s 14-12 win over Trinity for the 2008 NESCAC title. Julian, who is in the midst of a career year with 44 goals and 18 assists for 62 points, set a tournament record for points with 17 over three games while tying the playoff record for total goals with 11.

Becky Julian, Colby

Julian had eight goals, six assists and nine draw controls during a 2-0 week for the Mules. On Saturday against Amherst, Julian scored four goals and added an assist in a 12-7 victory. She followed up the performance by collecting a personal best nine points with four goals and five assists during Colby’s 22-14 win over Tufts in the first round of the 2008 NESCAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship. Through 13 games this season, Julian has 37 goals and 17 assists for 54 points, and eclipsed the 100-point mark for her career on Saturday.

Mimi Schatz, Middlebury
(Senior, Attacker - Baltimore, Md.)
During a 2-0 week for the Panthers, Schatz collected 10 points with five goals - including both game-winners - and five assists. On Wednesday, Schatz had three goals and an assist in a 16-10 win over Union. She closed out the week against Wesleyan by tallying two goals and four assists in a 19-6 decision. Schatz also had five draw controls and three caused turnovers during the week.

Julian had seven goals and four assists in a 2-0 week for Colby. On Saturday afternoon against Wesleyan, Julian had four goals and four assists in the Mules’ 14-12 victory. Earlier in the week, Julian contributed three goals in a win over Plymouth St. Julian ranks second for Colby in scoring with 24 goals and 10 assists for 34 points through nine appearances.

April 7, 2008
Amanda Roberts, Tufts
(First Year, Midfielder - Wenham, Mass.)
Roberts tallied 10 goals along with two assists during a 2-0 week for the Jumbos. On Thursday at Bridgewater St., Roberts netted four goals and two assists as part of a 19-6 win. She followed up the performance on Saturday with six goals to lead Tufts to a 15-14 come-from-behind victory over Colby, as she scored the game-tying goal with 2:19 remaining in the contest. Roberts also added seven ground balls and four draw controls over the two outings.

March 31, 2008
Amy Craig, Amherst
(Junior, Attacker - Denver, Colo.)
Craig tallied 11 goals and added an assist in helping Amherst to a 2-0 week. At Babson on Thursday, Craig netted the Jeffs’ first three goals of the game as part of a five-goal effort in a 12-8 win. During Saturday’s 9-8 overtime victory against Connecticut College, Craig collected six goals, including the decisive goal in overtime, along with an assist. Craig leads her team with 25 goals so far this season. 

Jenn Calver, Trinity
(Sophomore, Attacker - Barnard, Vt.)
Calver had 10 goals and an assist in a 2-0 week for the Bantams. Calver scored four goals in a 12-11 win at Tufts on Saturday, then added a team-high six goals and one assist in a 19-13 win at Bates on Sunday. Calver is third for Trinity in scoring with 17 goals and three assists for 20 points. 

March 24, 2008
Sara Christopher, Connecticut College
(Sophomore, Attacker - Andover, Mass.)
Christopher netted 10 goals and an assist along with three ground balls during a 3-0 week for the Camels in Colorado. Christopher opened the week with three goals on Tuesday in an 11-9 win at Colorado College. On Thursday, Christopher contributed two goals and an assist in a 13-10 victory at Regis. She closed out the week with five goals in a 15-13 decision over Goucher.

Amy Craig, Amherst
(Junior, Attacker - Denver, Colo.)
Craig scored six goals for Amherst in their lone game last week, a 13-8 victory over Springfield on Thursday evening. Five of Craig’s six goals came during the second half as the Jeffs out-scored Springfield 6-5 in the final frame. Craig scored three of her six tallies on free position shots, and she also accounted for the game-winner. 

March 10, 2008
Rachel Romanowsky, Trinity
(First Year, Midfielder - Hampstead, N.H.)
In her debut for the Bantams on Saturday, Romanowsky scored five goals and added three assists to help Trinity pick up an 18-15 win over Colby. Four of Romanowsky’s five goals were free position shots, while two of her three assists came as part of a 4-0 run in the second half that helped the Bantams pull away from the Mules.
