MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Lindsay Dwyer of Williams scored the game’s lone goal at 65:17 to lift the Ephs over Bowdoin and into the NESCAC Championship game in Middlebury tomorrow. The Ephs will take on the host school at noon for the conference title.
Williams threatened early as Jessie Freeman had a pair of shots 16 minutes into the game. The first save by Anna Shapell left and empty net, but Freeman’s second shot sailed high. Bowdoin had a great chance to score in the 37th minute, but Rachael Gordon’s rocket deflected off the post.
In the second half, Dwyer had an open look at the net in at 51:15 after beating Shapell to the ball. Her quick shot was heading towards the back of the net when Kendall Cox stepped up to make the kick save for the Polar Bears.
Williams finally broke the scoreless tie at 65:17 as a through ball from Hannah Stauffer left Dwyer in a one-on-one race for the ball with Shapell. Dwyer won the race and chipped the ball into the net from the right side 15 yards away.
Bowdoin had another great chanced to tie the game with three minutes remaining, but Sarah Ginsburg made a huge save on Katherine Whitley from point-blank range, preserving the 1-0 win for Williams.
Shapell ended the game with three saves for Bowdoin, while Ginsburg made seven stops for Williams.
