Women's Soccer Championship Takes Place at Middlebury This Weekend

HADLEY, Mass. — For the first time in tournament history, all three lower seeds defeated their hosts in the first round of the NESCAC Women’s Soccer Championship last Sunday. Top seed Middlebury College, currently ranked twelfth in the country, will host the semifinals and final of the NESCAC Women’s Soccer Championship this weekend November 6-7 on their campus in Middlebury, Vermont.

Semifinal action begins Saturday at 11:00 a.m. as Middlebury (7-0-2 NESCAC, 12-0-2 overall) plays host to seventh seed Connecticut College (3-6 NESCAC, 9-6 overall). Last Saturday, the Camels scored with five minutes remaining to upset second seed and twentieth ranked Amherst 1-0.

In the second semifinal, fifth seed Bowdoin (4-4-1 NESCAC, 9-5-1 overall) will meet sixth seed Williams (3-5-1 NESCAC, 8-5-2 overall) at 1:30 p.m. First year forward Katherine Whitley scored two goals to lead Bowdoin to a 3-0 win over Bates in the first round while senior forward Lindsay Dwyer scored the only goal of the game as Williams upset Tufts, 1-0.

Semifinal winners will advance to the championship on Sunday, November 7 at 12:00 p.m. at Middlebury. The NESCAC Champion receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Championship.
