Amherst Downs Otterbein 1-0 in NCAA Women's Soccer Sectionals

GENEVA, N.Y. - The Amherst College women’s soccer team defeated Otterbein 1-0 today in the sectionals of the NCAA Tournament. The Lord Jeffs improve to 14-2-3 overall and move on to play in the quarterfinal round tomorrow against host William Smith at 1:00 p.m., while the Cardinals wrap up their season with an 18-2-2 record.

There was limited scoring on a cold, snowy Cozzens Field this afternoon. Amherst broke through for the lone goal of the day 17:28 into the match, as Natalie Ferraiolo (Palo Alto, Calif.) threaded a lead pass to Kyla Woodhouse (Topsham, Maine) for the breakaway one-on-one tally.

The Lord Jeffs outshot Otterbein 14-10 overall, while the Cardinals owned a slight 3-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

Otterbein goalkeeper Tara Carter collected eight saves, while Amherst goalies Allie Horwitz (Woodbridge, Conn.) and Lili Ferguson (Winnetka, Ill.) combined for three stops. The Lord Jeff defense also recorded two team saves.
