2008 Women's Soccer Players of the Week

November 10, 2008
Brianna Wolfson, Williams
(Junior, M/F - Brookville, N.Y.)
Wolfson tallied four goals and an assist over the weekend to help Williams win the 2008 NESCAC Women’s Soccer Championship and become the first team in tournament history to repeat as champions. On Saturday against Bowdoin, Wolfson tied a championship record with three goals in a 6-1 win. Sunday against Amherst, Wolfson had a goal and an assist in the 3-2 overtime victory. She finished the championship with five goals and one assist and now has 10 goals and eight assists for 2008.

Kelly Thomas, Bowdoin
(Senior, Goalkeeper - West Hartford, Conn.)
Thomas made a career-high 15 saves during the Polar Bears’ 0-0 tie at Tufts on Sunday in the quarterfinals of the 2008 NESCAC Women’s Soccer Championship, then went on to make a save in the penalty kick session to help Bowdoin advance by a 4-2 margin. Earlier in the week, Thomas made six saves in a 2-1 setback to Tufts in the regular season finale. She finished the week with a .913 save percentage.

Gabrielle Woodson, Williams
(Senior, Forward - Plano, Texas)
Woodson scored in both of the Ephs’ games last week, netting the game-winning goal in a 3-0 win over Keene St. on Wednesday, then tallying the game-tying goal with 1:03 remaining in regulation during an eventual 1-1 draw at Amherst. Woodson is tied for second among conference players in goals with nine through 13 games.

Emily Weedon, Trinity
(Sophomore, Goalkeeper - Wellesley, Mass.)
Weedon pitched a pair of shutouts on the road last week as the Bantams won two important NESCAC contests heading into the final weeks of the regular season. On Wednesday afternoon at Connecticut College, Weedon stopped four shots in a 3-0 win. She made another four saves on Saturday afternoon in a 2-0 victory at Bowdoin.

Caitlin Parker, Middlebury
(Senior, Midfielder - Seattle, Wash.)
Parker had two goals over two key NESCAC victories for the Panthers last week. On Tuesday afternoon, Parker tallied the game’s first goal in a 2-1 win over Trinity. She added what proved to be the game-winning tally in a 3-1 victory against Tufts on Saturday afternoon. Parker now has three goals and an assist to pace Middlebury in scoring.

Gabrielle Woodson, Williams
(Senior, Forward - Plano, Texas)
Woodson, the 2007 NESCAC Player of the Year, had five goals during a 2-0-0 week for the Ephs. On Saturday, Woodson tied the game at 1-all with Williams’ first goal in an 4-2 victory over Trinity. Against Union on Sunday, Woodson had four goals, including the eventual game-winner, in a 5-1 win. She leads the NESCAC with seven goals through eight games.

Sarah Nolet, Tufts
(Sophomore, Defender - Los Altos, Calif.)
Nolet scored a goal in each game during a 2-0-0 week for the Jumbos while leading a defense that allowed only three shots on goal last week. On Wednesday at nationally-ranked Wheaton, Nolet scored the decisive goal in the 42nd minute in a 2-0 victory. She added an insurance marker on Saturday in the 60th minute during Tufts’ 2-0 win over Bates. Tufts has not allowed a goal through four games this season.

Loni Pisani, Colby
(Sophomore, Goalkeeper - Kanata, Ontario)
Pisani backboned the Mules to two 1-0 overtime victories over previously-unbeaten squads last week, making 17 saves in 186:02 minutes of work. On Tuesday afternoon against the University of New England, Pisani stopped seven shots. She posted 10 saves on Saturday at Trinity, as Colby was outshot 21-5 in the contest. Pisani has not allowed a goal in 231 minutes of action so far this season.
   
Lauryn Torch, Middlebury
(Sophomore, Goalkeeper - Bronxville, N.Y.)
Torch posted a stellar 2-0-1 record in net last week for the Panthers, allowing no goals over 290 minutes of action. She opened the week with four stops in a 2-0 win over Keene St. on Wednesday, then made two saves in a 2-0 victory against Wesleyan on Saturday. Torch closed the week with eight saves in a scoreless tie with Skidmore on Sunday afternoon.

Meg Murphy, Amherst
(Junior, Midfielder - Springfield, Mass.)
Murphy had two goals and an assist during the Jeffs’ 4-1 win at Middlebury on Saturday. Tied at 1-all midway through the second half, Murphy netted what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 61st minute. She added an assist on Amherst’s third goal, followed by a free-kick tally in the 71st minute.

Shawna Altdorf, Trinity
(First Year, Forward - Brooklyn, Conn.)
Altdorf scored her first career goal in a 3-0 victory over Catholic on Saturday in the opening round of the Manhattanville Valiant Classic, then netted the game-winner in a 3-1 decision over Keene St. on Sunday.
