ST. PETER, Minn. - In its first-ever appearance in the quarterfinals, Bowdoin fell to Pomona-Pitzer 5-3 in a nail-biting match Tuesday afternoon in the 2008 NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament at Gustavus Adolphus. The Polar Bears finish their remarkable season at 14-8.

Thanks to outstanding play from their #2 and #3 doubles pairs, Bowdoin carried a 2-1 lead into singles play. Kaitlin Raymond and Liz Pedowitz put the Polar Bears on the board with a convincing 8-2 win at #3 doubles before the Pomona-Pitzer team of Siobhan Finicane and Olivia Muesse down Bowdoin's top duo of Kristen Raymond and Sarah D'Elia, 8-4. Brett Davis and Rachel Waldman teamed to claim an 8-5 win at the third doubles position to give the Polar Bears a 2-1 edge.

Pomona bounced back with three straight singles wins to take the lead. Finicane (#1), Muesse (#3) and Kasyn Stevenson (#6) each claimed straight-set wins to quickly give the Sagehens a 4-2 advantage. Sarah D'Elia stopped the run with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 victory at number two singles for the Polar Bears, leaving two matches on the court.

Lindsay Clough sealed the win for Pomona with the tightest singles match of the afternoon, earning a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 victory over Waldman to give the Sagehens the clinching point. Brett Davis led Kathryn Myers in the second set when the match concluded.

Pomona, who beat Bowdoin 5-4 on March 9, advances to the NCAA Semifinals where they will play Williams College on Wednesday.

Bowdoin's Kristen Raymond will advance to play in the NCAA Individual Championship that begins on Friday at Gustavus Adolphus. More information will be announced later this week.
