NESCAC Volleyball All-Conference Teams Announced
Keeler of Wesleyan Named Player of the Year
HARTFORD, Conn. – Senior middle hitter Alexis Keeler of Wesleyan was named the 2001 NESCAC Volleyball Player of the Year. Keeler, a repeat first-team selection, averaged 4.27 kills and 0.83 blocks per game, and led the Cardinals to the top seed in the 2001 NESCAC Volleyball Championship tournament. She is the all-time school leader in kills and led Wesleyan to its first trip to the NCAA Division III Championship tournament.
Keeler was joined on the first team by teammate Eliza Allen, a junior middle hitter who led the NESCAC in kills per game (4.69) and was second in blocks (1.35 per game).
Senior outside hitter Jessica Stewart of Tufts was named to the all-conference first team for the third consecutive year. Stewart averaged 3.85 kills and 3.41 digs per game.
Two first-year players from NESCAC champion Williams received first-team recognition. Middle blocker Joyia Chadwick earned first-team accolades and was named the 2001 NESCAC Rookie of the Year. Chadwick averaged 4.44 kills per game and led the conference in blocks, averaging 1.62 per game. Outside hitter Robin Young was also named to the first team in her rookie season, averaging 4.11 kills and 3.69 digs per game.
Rounding out the first team was senior outside hitter Erica Hewes of Amherst, who averaged 4.33 kills and 0.82 blocks per game.
Senior outside hitter Lauren Fennessey of Bates, who was named to the All-NESCAC second team, was recognized as the 2001 NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year, the second time she has received the honor in the two years of the award. Wesleyan head coach Gale Lackey was named the 2001 NESCAC Coach of the Year.
