NESCAC Volleyball Championship to be Held at Williams

HARTFORD, Conn. – After finishing conference play with a 10-0 record, Williams College (30-3) earned the top seed in the 2003 NESCAC Volleyball Championship. The eight-team, single elimination tournament will be held at Williams on Friday, November 7 and Saturday, November 8 in Williamstown, Massachusetts.

Bates, 9-1 in NESCAC play and 24-8 overall, will be the second seed in the tournament and will face seventh seed Middlebury (4-6 NESCAC, 12-12 overall) at 6 p.m. Williams will meet eighth seed Bowdoin (3-7 NESCAC, 13-16 overall) at 6 p.m.

In first round action at 8:00 p.m., third seed Colby (8-2 NESCAC, 22-8 overall) will meet sixth seeded Wesleyan (5-5 NESCAC, 18-11 overall) and fourth seed Amherst, who finished 7-3 in NESCAC competition and 24-7 on the year, will square off with fifth seed Tufts (6-4 NESCAC, 20-10 overall).

The semifinals and championship will be played on Saturday. The semifinals will begin at 11 a.m. with the Williams-Bowdoin winner facing the Amherst-Tufts winner. The other semifinal will pit the Bates-Middlebury winner against the Colby-Wesleyan winner. The final will be played at 3 p.m.

Williams has won the previous two NESCAC titles defeating Amherst 3-0 to capture the 2002 Championship. The NESCAC tournament champion will receive an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship.

Semifinals - Saturday, Nov. 8 at Williams
Williams/Bowdoin winner vs. Amherst/Tufts winner - 11:00 a.m.
Bates/Middlebury winner vs. Colby/Wesleyan winner - 11:00 a.m.

Championship - Saturday, Nov. 8 at Williams
Semifinal winners - 3:00 p.m.
