Top Seeds Advance to Volleyball Semifinals

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Middlebury rallied down two games to one to defeat Colby and advance to the semifinal round of the NESCAC Volleyball Championship held at Williams College. The match went five games with the Panthers outlasting the Mules 30-19, 29-31, 21-30, 35-33, 19-17. Senior Sydney Hartsock led the Panthers with 42 digs and teammate Katy Hicks ’05 led the offense with 15 kills. Cait Cleaver ’06 played a tremendous match for the Mules, collecting 23 kills and 44 digs. Colby freshman Sara Nelson notched 18 kills and 38 digs.

Middlebury will meet Williams who defeated Wesleyan 3-0. Senior Robin Young led the Ephs with 14 kills, 21 digs and 2 service aces and fellow classmate Joyia Chadwick added 12 kills and four block assists in the match. Senior Meg Demment and sophomore Krista Suojanen each collected 10 digs and two service aces.

Amherst held off a strong challenge from Bates 3-0. Liz Santy ’06 led Bates with 15 digs and teammate Olivia Zurek ’05 led the team with 16 kills. Kate Raddock ’06 led Amherst with 21 digs. The Jeffs advance to face Tufts who turned back Bowdoin 3-0. Action continues on Saturday with semifinals at 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. The Championship match is scheduled for Sunday, November 7 at 1:00 p.m. Watch all the action live on Jumbocast.net.
