Four Teams Advance to Semifinals in Volleyball Championship

WATERVILLE, Maine - Megan Devlin went over 1,000 career kills with 11 on Friday to lead the top-seeded Colby College volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over eighth-seeded Wesleyan University in a New England Small College Athletic Conference Championship quarterfinal game Friday at Wadsworth Gym.

The Mules (32-3) won by scores of 30-22, 30-21, 30-19. Colby plays four-time defending champion and No. 4 seed Williams in a semifinal Saturday at 1 p.m. Williams earned a 3-0 win against No. 5 Connecticut College by scores of 30-23, 33-31, 30-27.

Tufts (26-5), the second seed, also won 3-0 over Amherst College by scores of 30-25, 32-30, 30-23. The Jumbos will play a 3:30 p.m. semifinal against No. 6 Trinity, which took a 3-0 win (30-14, 30-23, 32-30) over third-seeded Middlebury College.

Devlin, who also had a team-best 13 defensive digs, now has 1,005 kills for Colby. Cait Cleaver had 10 kills and seven digs, Kaitlin Adams finished with nine kills and setter Jenny Lawrence had 26 assists and seven digs. Wesleyan (16-12) received 12 kills and three service aces from Lisa Drennan. Rebecca Rodger had 25 assists and Tory Molnar finished with 15 digs. Dana Fleisher and Caitlin Dealy both had 14 kills to lead Tufts past Amherst. Kaitlin O'Reilly finished with 45 assists and 16 digs, while Katie Wysham and April Gerry both had 10 kills.

Jaclyn DeMais led Amherst (17-11) with 14 kills and eight digs. Kristin Quinn and Whitney Kouvaris both had eight kills.

In the Trinity win over Middlebury, Erika Heineken had 13 kills to pace the Bantams (17-10). Megan Borgelt had 42 assists, Nicole Cahill and Lucy Hollis each finished with 11 kills and Vanessa Forero had eight kills and six blocks.

Lacee Patterson had 17 assists and 15 digs for Middlebury (15-12). Jackie Edwards had eight kills.

Annie Denison led Williams (18-12) with 20 kills and 13 digs. Alexis Knepp added 38 assists and nine digs, Claire Hsu had eight kills and Krista Suojanen had 17 digs for Williams.
Caitlin Tomaska had 14 kills and 15 digs for Conn College (16-10). Molly Kawachi had 33 assists and Courtney Hambleton had 20 digs for the Camels.
