Williams Takes Connecticut College in Volleyball Semifinals

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Top-seeded Williams (25-6, 10-0) cruised to a 3-0 win over No. 5 Conn. College (20-9, 7-3) on Saturday, earning a trip to the NESCAC tournament finals. Williams got out to an impressive start and never looked back, winning the first game 30-8, the second 30-22, and the third 30-27.

Senior co-captains Alexis Knepp and Krista Suojanen were keys to the Eph victory. Knepp had 36 assists while Suojanen came through with 15 digs. First-year Melissa Pun put together an impressive performance with 11 kills and 16 digs and first-year Chelsea Kubal tallied 12 digs.

For the Camels, first-year setter Kat Torrey contributed 23 assists and first-year Lauren Wise had a team-high 19 digs. Sophomore Jenna Tjossem led Conn. College with 10 kills. The Camels, who on Friday night pulled off an upset of fourth-seeded toughs to advance to the semifinals, finish their season with 20 victories and will lose just one senior to graduation this year.

Williams will now face the winner of second-seeded Wesleyan and third-seeded Amherst in the tournament finals, to be played in Chandler Gymnasium at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
