Amherst Sweeps Trinity to Advance to Volleyball Semifinals

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Third-seeded Amherst rolled past sixth-seeded Trinity Friday night in the first round of the 2006 NESCAC Tournament, 30-14, 30-18, 30-26. The Jeffs improved to 25-4 (7-3 in the NESCAC) on the year, while the Bantams finish at 16-7 (6-4).

Senior co-captains Kristin Quinn and Laura Golden led the Jeffs. Quinn had a team-high 14 kills and Golden tallied 13 digs. Sophomore middle hitter Claire Holton-Basaldua also came up big for the Jeffs, contributing 13 kills and 13 digs, and sophomore setter Sara Heller finished with 36 assists.

Trinity got solid performances from junior setter Emily Moore, who had 20 assists and 3 digs, as well as junior outside hitter Vanessa Forero (8 kills) and junior libero Kathleen Lenz (13 digs).

Amherst advances to Saturday's semifinals, where it will meet second-seeded Wesleyan, who earlier Friday defeated Bowdoin in four games, at 3:30 p.m.
