2007 NESCAC Volleyball Player of the Week

Emily Avis, Williams

Avis had a big hand in helping the Ephs capture the 2007 NESCAC Volleyball Championship over the weekend, racking up 160 assists for an average of 14.5 per game along with contributing 3.73 digs per game. Against Amherst in the final on Sunday, Avis had 15 digs, three blocks, and a championship-match record 71 assists in a 3-2 win for Williams.

Alisha Cahlan, Williams
(Sophomore, OPP - Las Vegas, Nev.)
Cahlan averaged 4.9 kills per game and hit at a .349 clip as the Ephs won three NESCAC matches last week to finish the regular season in second place. She also collected 10 blocks, coming up with five in a 3-0 sweep of Connecticut College on Saturday.

Jaclyn DeMais, Amherst
(Senior, OH - Hillsdale, N.J.)
DeMais averaged 6.0 kills and 3.68 digs per game during a 4-1 week for the Jeffs, as she hit at a .331 clip during the stretch. Against Williams on Tuesday evening, DeMais accumulated 35 kills and 27 digs in a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Williams, averaging 7.0 kills and 5.4 digs per game in the match.

Dena Feiger, Tufts
(Sophomore, S - Long Grove, Ill.)
Feiger helped the Jumbos to a 3-0 week, including victories over NESCAC foes Trinity and Wesleyan, as she averaged 12.0 assists per game over a 10-game stretch. Feiger also averaged 4.6 digs per game and added in 11 kills and 12 blocks during the week. She accumulated 35 assists against Trinity on Friday and 37 assists against Wesleyan on Saturday.

Gillian Page, Bowdoin
(Sophomore, OH - Mercer Island, Wash.)
Page averaged 3.14 kills and 4.86 digs per game as the Polar Bears went 3-1 last week. At Colby on Wednesday, Page had nine kills and 16 digs in a 3-0 victory before collecting 16 kills and 20 digs in a 3-2 setback to Amherst on Sunday. Page leads Bowdoin in kills and digs per game this season.

Ruby Hernandez, Wesleyan
(First Year, DS - West Palm Beach, Fla.)
Hernandez averaged 4.93 digs per game during a 4-0 week for the Cardinals, including a 34-dig performance in a 3-2 victory over Amherst, tying a team record for digs in a match in the process. Hernandez also added in 14 assists, a kill and five aces last week. During the Wesleyan Invitational over the weekend, Hernandez received 64 serves without committing an error.

Lisa Drennan, Wesleyan
(Junior, OH - Ann Arbor, Mich.)
Drennan helped the Cardinals go 3-1 and finish fifth at the 16-team MIT Invitational over the weekend, averaging 5.8 kills and 2.4 digs per game with a .293 hitting percentage while earning All-Tournament Team honors. In a 3-2 win over Vassar on Saturday, Drennan posted 33 kills. For the week, Drennan averaged 5.7 kills per game and posted a .285 hitting percentage.

Caitlin Tomaska, Connecticut College
(Junior, OH - Solana Beach, Calif.)
Tomaska helped the Camels post a 4-0 week, including three victories in NESCAC action over the weekend. Tomaska averaged 4.25 kills and 4.08 digs per game while hitting at a .354 clip, along with adding in eight service aces and six blocks.

Jaclyn DeMais, Amherst
(Senior, OH - Hillsdale, N.J.)
DeMais picked up where she left off last season as she helped her squad post a 3-0 record at the Roger Williams Invitational with victories over Rivier, the University of New England and Roger Williams. DeMais posted a strong 4.30 kills per game while hitting at a .525 clip over 10 games. Her performance in the invitational earned her Tournament MVP honors for the second-straight year.
