2017 Volleyball Players of the Week

Hilton played a pivotal role in Wesleyan’s run to its first NESCAC Championship in program history. She recorded at least 13 kills and two blocks in all three matches. In a 3-0 sweep against Williams, she totaled 14 kills and had a .545 hitting percentage. In the semifinals against Bowdoin, she totaled 13 kills and three blocks, and added a 13-kill performance and a .310 hitting percentage in the final. For the tournament, Hilton averaged 3.64 kills per set with a .353 hitting percentage.

Burdin averaged 9.46 assists, 2.38 digs, 0.38 blocks and 0.31 aces per set in a 2-1 weekend. In Friday’s five-set win against Middlebury, she tied a career high with 55 assists and added 10 digs and two blocks. The win helped the Continentals clinch a 7-3 conference record and the No. 4 seed in the NESCAC Championship, both of which are the best in the program’s history.

Flaharty averaged 3.91 kills and 2.73 digs per set as the Polar Bears went 2-1 at the Hall of Fame Tournament hosted by Amherst last weekend. She finished with a .400 hitting percentage for the weekend.

Hilton totaled 13 kills with a .478 hitting percentage against Johnson & Wales, and in Wesleyan’s 3-1 win against Susquehanna, she totaled 12 kills with just two errors on 19 attempts for a .526 hitting percentage while also recording five blocks. For the week, Hilton averaged 2.91 kills per set with a .410 hitting percentage and 0.91 blocks per set.

Senior • Setter • Bloomington, Ind.

Forney, a team captain, averaged 12.9 assists, 4.3 digs, 0.3 kills and 0.2 blocks per set in a 3-0 week for the Bobcats. Bates won nine sets in a row on the week, in a 3-1 win over Bowdoin followed by 3-0 victories over Connecticut College and Wesleyan. Bates defeated Connecticut College for the first time since 2004, Bowdoin for the first time since 2009, and dealt Wesleyan its first NESCAC loss of the season.

Flaharty was dominant in a pair of key NESCAC road wins for the Polar Bears.  At Trinity, she recorded 12 kills and had seven digs in a 3-0 sweep. In a five-set comeback win at Amherst, she notched a career-high 26 kills against just two errors, hitting .393 and earning 12 digs as the Polar Bears claimed a 3-2 victory. For the week, she averaged 4.75 kills and 2.38 digs per set while hitting at a .365 clip.

Graves led Wesleyan to a 3-0 week, which included sweeps of Trinity (3-0) and Amherst (3-0) and a win over Stevens (3-1). In the two conference wins, she registered a hitting percentage of .432. For the week, Graves averaged 2.50 kills, 1.20 digs and 0.70 blocks per set. The Cardinals secured the Little Three title for the first time since 1992.

Raffel led the Panthers to a 4-0 week by averaging 3.85 kills and 2.92 digs per set. She finished the week with a .331 hitting percentage, earning four service aces and a pair of blocks.

Junior • Outside Hitter • Duxbury, Mass.

Bright was an offensive spark for Tufts in a pair of NESCAC wins. She turned in 16 kills with a .353 hitting percentage in the Jumbos’ 3-0 win over Bates. She added 13 kills with a .360 hitting percentage to help Tufts down Colby, 3-0. Bright finished the week with 29 kills for an average of 4.83 kills per set and a .356 hitting percentage.

First Year • Setter • Volo, Ill.

Kiser was outstanding in a 3-1 week for the Polar Bears. She averaged 11.5 assists per set while also racking up 3.0 digs and 1.13 kills per set in her collegiate debut. In Bowdoin’s lone loss of the week, a five-setter to Minnesota-Morris on Saturday, she recorded 61 assists, the second-highest total in a single match in program history.
