2008 Cross Country Performers of the Week

Mark Springel, Williams
(Freshman - Medford, N.J.)
Springel was the top NESCAC runner at the ECAC championships on Saturday, placing 5th out of 323 runners. He completed the Colt State Park course in R.I. in 26:38, leading the Ephs to their fourth consecutive ECAC win.
   
Elly Teitsworth, Williams
(Junior - Ridgefield, Conn.)
Teitsworth came in first at the ECAC championship on Saturday at Colt State Park in R.I., completing the race in 23:33 to pace the field of 298 runners. The performance helped the Ephs capture the team title with 23 points.

Peter Kosgei, Hamilton
(Junior - Kapsabet, Kenya)
Kosgei won his sixth race this fall by finishing first at the 2008 NESCAC Men’s Cross Country Championship. Kosgei completed the 8-kilometer course in record time (25:07), 35 seconds ahead of the next runner. It was his second-straight NESCAC individual title.
   
Elise Tropiano, Amherst
(Senior - Plainview, N.Y.)
Tropiano set the 6-kilometer course record at Pineland Farms by finishing first at the 2008 NESCAC Women’s Cross Country Championship, posting a time of 21:49. Her performance helped the Jeffs claim fifth with a score of 143.

Jeff Perlis, Williams
(Junior - Bethesda, Md.)
Perlis won the Little Three Championship with a time of 26:12 over the 8-kilometer course. The performance helped the Ephs capture the Little Three title over Amherst and Wesleyan for the 21st consecutive year.
   
Lauren Philbrook, Williams
(Senior - Hopkinton, Mass.)
Philbrook led the Ephs to the title at the Little Three Championship on Saturday afternoon. Philbrook posted a time of 18:53 over the 5-kilometer course, finishing second out of 67 runners.

Emma Linhard, Colby
(Sophomore - Brunswick, Maine)
Linhard finished in second place out of 115 runners with a time of 18:49.6 at the Maine State Championships on Saturday. Her time over the 5-kilometer course helped the Mules capture the team title.

Jesse Faller, Tufts
(Junior - Burlington, Mass.)
Faller placed sixth overall at the Open New England Championships on Saturday at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. His time of 24:55 over the 8-kilometer course was the fastest by any Division III runner, as Tufts placed 19th out of 47 teams.
   
Elise Tropiano, Amherst
(Senior - Laurel Hollow, N.Y.)
Tropiano was second overall at the Open New England Championships on Saturday at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. She completed the 5-kilometer race in 17:38 and finished as the fastest Division III runner at the meet.

Jesse Faller, Tufts
(Junior - Burlington, Mass.)
Faller finished first out of a field of 155 runners at the 41st annual Codfish Bowl at Franklin Park. Faller completed the 8-kilometer course in 25:42, three seconds faster than the next runner. Tufts placed second out of 17 teams.
   

Liz Wheatley, Wesleyan
(Senior - Arlington, Mass.)
In her first race of the season, Wheatley won the Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday with a time of 19:28 over the 5-kilometer course. The Cardinals finished third at the eight-team meet with a score of 54.

Kosgei finished first out of 120 runners at the Oneonta St. Airfield Invitational on Friday afternoon. Kosgei recorded both a new course and meet record with a time of 18:26 for the 6-kilometer race.
   

Elise Tropiano, Amherst
(Senior - Laurel Hollow, N.Y.)
Tropiano finished first at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational, posting a time of 18:11 for the 5-kilometer race. Her finish helped Amherst claim second at the 41-team meet with 88 points.

  Devin Dilts, Bates
(Sophomore - Roscoe, Ill.)
In his first-ever 8-kilometer cross country race, Dilts, who transferred to Bates this fall, was the top finisher for the Bobcats at the Tufts Invitational on Saturday, finishing fourth with a time of 27:20. Bates finished third at the 10-team meet.
   

Emily Potter, Hamilton
(First Year - Austin, Texas)
Potter was the top finisher for the Continentals and placed third overall with a time of 20:04 at the Brockport St. Invitational on Saturday. Hamilton finished 2nd at the 7-team meet with a score of 38, 17 points behind winner Brockport St.

Edgar Kosgey, Williams
(Junior - Reft Valley, Kenya)
Kosgey finished first out of 178 runners at the Fordham Fiasco Invitational over the weekend with a time of 26:28 on the 8-kilometer course, 15 seconds ahead of the next runner. Williams placed 3rd in the 16-team meet.
   
Stephanie McNamara, Tufts
(Sophomore - North Attleborough, Mass.)
McNamara won the Trinity Invitational by 21 seconds, posting a time of 16:31 on the hilly 4.25-kilometer course. The Jumbos came away with first place at the 14-team meet with 48 points, well ahead of second-place finisher Stonehill (95).
