Trinity SAAC Hosts Field Day with McDonough School

May 6 - On Tuesday, April 26, sixth-grade students from The McDonough Expeditionary Learning School (MELS) bussed over to Trinity College’s Ray Oosting Gymnasium for the second annual Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) Field Day.  Led by representatives from most of Trinity’s varsity teams, the MLES sixth graders’ voices could be heard throughout the building cheering on their teammates in games of dizzy bat, shuttle runs, corn hole, and basketball. Senior football captain Kyle Pulek spearheaded the program for MELS last year.

Williams Baseball Wears Pete Frates Wrist Bands on Strike Out ALS Day

April 25 - The Williams baseball team wore wrist bands honoring former Boston College baseball player Pete Frates when it hosted RPI as the Ephs supported the cause to strike out the disease ALS ("Lou Gehrig's disease"). 

Frates was the inspiration behind the famed "Bucket Challenge" that swept the nation recently and generated millions for ALS research.

Mike Gambino, head baseball coach at Boston College, is trying to make ALS the cause for all college baseball coaches and has asked all of the New England Division I, II and III college teams to support the cause by wearing Pete Frates wrist bands in a game this season.

Tufts Baseball & Men's Lacrosse Support Trio of Causes

April 21 - Tufts University Athletics will lend its support to the Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts, the Somerville Homeless Coalition, and Strike Out ALS at Saturday's baseball and men's lacrosse home games.

Saturday's "Spring Swing" will be the second Fan The Fire (FTF) event of the spring season. It will be centered around the incredible story of Tufts alumna Whitney Hardy, the former Jumbo soccer player who has overcome a traumatic brain injury after she was hit by a car while jogging in 2014. Saturday's event will raise awareness and funds for The Brain Injury Association of MassachusettsMedRhythms, a neurologic music therapy service company, will also be in attendance. FTF is partnering with the Tufts Student and Young Alumni Giving Fund in support of this cause.

Hamilton SAAC Drives Successful Mini-Golf Tournament  

April 20 - To celebrate NCAA Division III Week, Hamilton’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted a mini-golf tournament in the Field House on April 10.

The entire Hamilton community was invited to participate in the event that included a 9-hole tournament in which participants, in groups of two or four, took their best score on each hole and competed for prizes of gift cards for the top two groups, and a hole-in-one raffle winner. There was pizza and music for all.

More than 100 students took part, along with faculty and staff and their families. While there was no fee to participate, $1,593 was raised for the One Love Foundation through donations at and before the event.

Middlebury SAAC Hosts Sportsmanship Weekend 

April 15 - The Middlebury College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) sponsored a Sportmanship Weekend during all home events for the weekend of April 15-17. Activities throughout the weekend include a "whiteout" where fans are encouraged to wear white for all athletic events, tables setup at contests for kids to get a blue 'M' painted on their cheek by Middlebury SAAC members, a halftime kids' lacrosse game during the Middlebury and Trinity NESCAC women's lacrosse contest and much more.

Colby Tennis Hosts Kids Day

April 15 - The Colby men’s and women’s tennis teams hosted the first annual Colby Tennis Kids Day on Friday.

The event was free to children of all ages and tennis abilities. The event consisted of covering the basics of tennis and getting instruction from the Colby tennis teams, head coach Jason Cohen, and assistant coach Lanell Beckles.

There was a DJ playing music and games for kids to have fun and learn how to play tennis. There were prizes to win from sponsors Sweet Frog, Joseph’s Sporting Goods, Staples, and Champions Fitness Club. There were demonstrations from current members of the Colby tennis teams and also the chance for participants to play with some of the current members of the teams.

Middlebury Softball Hosts Green Dot Games 

April 15 - The Middlebury softball NESCAC doubleheader against Wesleyan on April 16 served as Middlebury's first Green Dot Games. The Panther softball team is the initial Middlebury varsity sport to become an official Green Dot team, having completed a team training sessions.

"We hope this event will help raise awareness about power-based personal violence on and around our campus and community," said Barbara McCall, the Middlebury Director of Health and Wellness Education. "We also look to empower everyone in our community to take steps to prevent violence and show their support for a safer campus."

April 14 - On April 2, in a relentless rain, 20 Artists for World Peace volunteers—including Wesleyan football coach Dan DiCenzo and staunch members of the football team—loaded a 20-foot shipping container with $648,000 worth of medical equipment, eyeglasses, and other items.

Tufts Men's Lacrosse Announces Partnership with Somerville Homeless Coalition

April 13 - The Tufts men’s lacrosse team announced a new partnership with the Somerville Homeless Coalition (SHC) to help meet the needs of Somerville’s underprivileged population.

The team collected dry goods (cereal, children’s snacks, dry beans, bagged rice and peanut butter) and personal hygiene products (soap, deodorant, toothbrushes,  toothpaste, shampoo) at Bello Field on April 23 during its game against Wesleyan University.
