Lindsay Schakenbach, Connecticut College

Lindsay Schakenbach epitomized the true balance that exists between academics and athletics at Connecticut College. Schakenbach served as a team captain of the track and field program and consistently finished in the top seven on the cross country team. She helped her cross country team secure an eighth place finish at the New England Division III Championship in her senior season and was voted the team’s unsung hero. Schakenbach ranks among the top 10 All-Time in five different track events.

In the classroom, Schackenbach separated herself from the pack with one of the highest GPAs at the college. In May of 2006, Schakenbach was honored as the Brown/Brooks Award winner by the Connecticut College Athletic Program. The award is presented to the outstanding male and female student-athletes who best represent the graduating class in scholarship, leadership and sportsmanship. Shackenbach also received the history department prize for excellence in Latin American history. Schakenbach has authored an ethnography on substitute teaching and has studied abroad at the University College of London.

A member of Phi Beta Kappa, Schakenbach was a four-time member of the NESCAC All-Academic Team.
