Samantha Smith, Colby College
Colby women's squash player Samantha Smith was in select company the past two years as one of just four conference athletes named All-NESCAC in their respective sport and also named to the All-Academic Team and the All-Sportsmanship Team.
Smith played all four years at the difficult first position and ranks as one of Colby's all-time great squash players. She had a record of 19-11 this past season and was 36-21 over the past two years. Smith played in the Collegiate Squash Association National Singles Tournament the past two seasons.
"Samantha was one of the best players and captains we've ever had," Colby squash head coach Sakhi Khan said. "She inspired all of us to reach higher."
Smith was the captain this past season when the Mules were the only women's team to win two national awards. Colby was honored with the College Squash Association's Chaffee Award for team sportsmanship and the Mules also earned the Most Improved Team Award for going from 23rd in the country in 2009 to 16th in 2010. Colby also earned the Chaffee Award in Smith's first season back in the 2006-07 academic year.
Smith earned Colby's Pamela Hoyt-Sanborn Award at the senior awards ceremony in late April. The award is presented annually to a senior female athlete for her contributions of sportsmanship and leadership throughout her tenure at Colby.
