Rae Haynes, Trinity College
Rae Haynes was an economics major at Trinity College, where he was a four-year starter on the winningest football team in the NESCAC, and a captain in his senior year. Haynes’ athletic achievements are extensive, and he maintained a strong academic record while being heavily involved with the community, on campus and beyond.
In his senior year, Haynes led the Bantams defense to an 8-0 record and the NESCAC Crown. He was the 2012 NESCAC Defensive Player of the year, a D3Football.com 3rd Team All-American, a BSN 1st Team All-American, and a member of the 2012 New England Football Writers Division All-Star Team after recording 44 tackles, five pass breakups, and a team-best four interceptions. In 2011, Haynes collected All-NESCAC First Team Honors as a leader of the nation’s top-ranked defense, and he was Trinity’s top defensive rookie in 2010. Haynes finished his standout career with 97 tackles, 11 pass breakups, and eight picks. In his four years as a Bantam, Haynes compiled a 28-4 record (.875).
A passionate and committed member of Trinity’s football program, Haynes showed a lot of heart off the gridiron as well. At the conclusion of his career, Haynes was recognized by Trinity for his dedication to bettering both Trinity and his hometown of Hartford, earning the prestigious Robert R. Bartlett Award, presented annually to the male student who has combined excellence in athletics and devotion to community and/or campus service. He also earned The George Sheldon McCook Trophy, awarded to a senior male who exhibits diligence, conscientiousness, courtesy, self-control, and honor at all times, especially in athletic sports and contests.
