Shay Ajayi, Men's Basketball, Trinity College
Shay Ajayi did it all for the men’s basketball team during his time in a Trinity uniform. The 2015-16 team captain and NESCAC Player of the Year got it done off the court as well, double majoring in engineering and economics while devoting a large portion of his time off the court to various community service activities.
He received a Robert R. Bartlett Award from the College for his combined excellence in athletics and campus/community service and was Trinity’s senior male athlete of the year (McCook Award). The four-year starter was both an algebra tutor for local Hartford youth, a basketball camp counselor and worked with children in the Special Olympics during his college career. Ajayi also took part in Trinity’s “Do It Day” community service opportunity in the city of Hartford for four years and was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
On the court, the Brooklyn native led Trinity in scoring with 13.9 points per game to go along with 7.3 rebounds per contest in 2015-16. He was fourth in the conference with 42 steals and added 29 assists and 26 blocked shots. He completed his outstanding career with 1,169 points, 714 rebounds, and 86 blocked shots in 107 career games. Ajayi was named to the DIII News and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-American teams, the NABC All-District First Team, the D3Hoops.com All-Northeast Region First Team, and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England All-Star Second Team. Ajayi also was selected for the Reese’s NABC Division III College All-Star Game. In four years, Ajayi helped the Bantams to the top of the NESCAC standings twice, three NESCAC Tournaments, two NCAA Tournaments, and the NCAA Elite Eight in 2014-15.
