Rubii Tamen had a year to remember as she closed out her career as a member of the Amherst women’s soccer and women’s track & field teams.
The senior forward earned her first All-America selection from the United Soccer Coaches (USC), landing a spot on the First Team after being named NESCAC Player of the Year.
Tamen led the conference in points (33) and goals (16) the season. She anchored the offensive end with dominant performances over the entire season, including a three-game stint where she scored two goals in each contest.
She netted seven game-winners on the year, including the decisive goal in a 1-0 win over MIT to send Amherst to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen. She tallied the tying goal in an eventual 2-1 loss to William Smith in the NCAA Third Round.
The 2018 campaign marked her third straight 20-plus point season as she finished her career with 74 points (32 goals, 10 assists) in 73 games.
In the spring, Tamen was a member of the Mammoths' 4x400 meter relay team that set a school record at the New England Championships. Tamen ran the anchor leg and pulled Amherst to a third-place finish in a time of 3:53.62, nearly two seconds better than the previous school mark.
At the New England Indoor Championships, Tamen competed in the 200-meter dash and finished sixth overall. She also was part of a 4x200 relay team that took third place. At the NESCAC Outdoor Championships, Tamen finished 13th in the 200-meter dash.
Outside of athletics, Tamen served on the executive board for the Council of Amherst College Student-Athletes of Color (CACSAC).
