HADLEY, Mass. - Amherst, the 2018 NESCAC Champion, will represent the NESCAC in the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship. The Mammoths earned an automatic berth to the tournament after winning their first NESCAC title since 2013, with a 3-2 victory over Tufts in Game 6 of the NESCAC Championship at Trinity College on May 13.
Six teams will compete at three regional sites and eight teams will compete at five regional sites. All regionals will use a double-elimination format. Forty conference champions qualified automatically.
Winners of the eight regional tournaments will qualify for the pool play double-elimination championship at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wisconsin, May 25-29/30, 2018.
Amherst (24-12) is making its ninth NCAA appearance and first since 2015. The Mammoths will play in the Auburn, N.Y. Regional where SUNY Cortland will serve as the host institution. Amherst will face Southern Maine (27-13) in the first game. The Huskies earned an at-large bid out of the Little East Conference. Games will be played May 17-20/21 in Auburn, N.Y.
Salisbury (33-10), the Capital Atheltic Conference Champion, and St. Joseph (L.I.) (26-16), the Skyline Champion, will square off in the other half of Amherst's bracket.
Other teams in the regional include the hosts SUNY Cortland (32-10), an at-large selection from the SUNYAC and Wesfield State (24-16-1), the champion from the MASCAC. Baldwin Wallace (31-12), the Ohio Athletic Conference Champion, will meet Swarthmore (33-9), the Centennial Conference Champion, to round our the regional pairings.
