  • Wesleyan's Dan DiCenzo Elevated to Head Football Coach as Whalen Focuses on AD Position

    Michael Whalen '83, who returned to his alma mater as head football coach and associate athletics director in 2010, has stepped down as head football coach, effective February 1, to devote full attention to his post as athletics director. Dan DiCenzo, who has been associate head football coach and defensive coordinator at Wesleyan the last five years, is taking over the head coaching position.

    Amherst senior football player Chris Tamasi has been named one of five finalists from the NCAA’s Division I, II and III for the prestigious 10th Annual Coach Wooden Citizenship Cup award, as announced by Fred Northup, the President of Athletes for a Better World.
  • JB Wells Named Bowdoin Head Football Coach

    Bowdoin College has announced the hiring of James (JB) Wells as the 29th head football coach in school history. Most recently the head coach at Endicott (Mass.) College, Wells is a 1991 graduate of Trinity (Conn.) College.
  • Trinity's Magardino Named AFCA First Team All-American

    Trinity senior center Joe Magardino has been honored by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) as a First Team All-American. Magardino, a two-time All-NESCAC First Team selection, was the only individual from a NESCAC team on the 25-player squad.
  • NESCAC Players and Coaches Honored by Gridiron Club of Greater Boston

    Gridiron Club of Greater Boston Awards Committee chairman Tim Whelan recently announced that Wesleyan's Jake Bussani was named the Joe Zabilski Award winner and Amherst's Chris Tamasi was selected as the Nils V. "Swede" Nelson Award winner for Division III. Middlebury head coach Bob Ritter and Wesleyan associate head coach Dan DiCenzo were recognized as well.

    Trinity senior Michael Mancini and Middlebury junior Dan Pierce were named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America ® Football Second Team as announced by Capital One and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Tuesday.

    Junior quarterback Matt Milano of Middlebury and senior quarterback Jesse Warren of Wesleyan have been selected as the NESCAC Co-Offensive Players of the Year. Wesleyan defensive back Jake Bussani has been named the NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year.

    Trinity football junior safety tri-captain Mike Mancini (Rocky Hill, Conn.) was named as a National Football Foundation (NFF) National Scholar-Athlete presented by Fidelity Investments today. The honorees also comprise the list of 17 finalists from across all NCAA divisions and NAIA, selected from a group of 169 exceptional semifinalists, for the 2014 William V. Campbell Trophy, presented by Fidelity Investments and prominently displayed at its official home inside the New York Athletic Club.
