2018-19 Men's Basketball Players of the Week

Che poured in 30 points on 11-for-18 shooting (61.1%) as Amherst defeated Wesleyan 63-56 in the NESCAC Quarterfinals. Che was 4-for-9 from behind the 3-point line and 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Che added 18 points at Hamilton earlier in the week. He was 7-for-17 from the floor and hit four 3-pointers, while recording two steals against the Continentals. Che averaged 24.0 points per game for the week.

Junior Eric Sellew (Carlisle, Mass.) led Amherst to three wins last week, averaging 16.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game, while shooting 54.3 percent from the floor. He scored 19 points, with six rebounds, three assists and two steals in a one-point win over Wesleyan. He added 19 points and seven rebounds in a victory at Middlebury. He grabbed seven rebounds and was 5-for-7 from the floor in a win at Williams.

Hoffmann averaged 18.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks in three wins. He also shot 55.6 percent (20-of-36) from the floor. He posted his first double-double of the season with 22 points and 10 rebounds (7 offensive) and added four assists in a 92-76 victory against Bates. He followed up with 21 points and five rebounds in an 87-83 triumph against Tufts. Last weekend marked the first time Hoffmann eclipsed the 20-point mark in a game this year. He chipped in 11 points and three assists in an 80-65 win at Wells.

Jefferson averaged 27.3 points, shot 58.6 percent from 3-point range (17-for-29), 54.8 percent from the field (23-of-42), 86.4 percent from the foul line (19-for-22), and pulled down 5.3 rebounds per game in a 3-0 week for the Mules. Jefferson scored 29 points, including 19 in the second half, while shooting 64.3 percent from the field and 6-for-10 from 3-point range in a win at Hamilton. He went 5-for-6 from the foul line in the final 2:42 to help secure the victory. At Amherst, he netted 24 points and was 12-of-14 from the foul line. Jefferson started the week with 29 points behind a 7-for-12 shooting effort from 3-point range in a three-point win over Husson.

Farrell averaged 23.5 points and 4.0 assists per game while shooting 60.7 percent from the floor in a 2-0 week for the Panthers. In a win at Williams, Farrell scored 24 points on 9-for-14 shooting and dished out five assists in 26 minutes of action. He added 23 points, three assists, and two steals in a win over Albertus Magnus.

Hutcherson averaged 21.5 points per game and shot 91.7 percent from the foul line for Wesleyan. He led the Cardinals’ second-half rally against Hamilton, scoring 24 points in the final 20 minutes, including 12 straight points as the Cardinals came back to win, 73-69. He finished with 32 points and five 3-pointers. Hutcherson hit the game-winning shot with three seconds remaining to defeat Amherst, 62-60, the following day and finished with 11 points and four assists.

Simonds averaged 27.5 points and 7.5 rebounds as the Polar Bears split against Bates and Tufts last weekend. Simonds equaled his career high with a 35-point effort against Bates on Friday, leading the Polar Bears to a win thanks to a 15-for-20 shooting performance from the field. For the week, Simonds shot 66.7 percent from the field.

Gilmour averaged 24.0 points, 6.0 assists, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks in two wins at the Land of Magic Classic in Daytona Beach, Florida. He handed out 12 assists and shot 64.3 percent from the floor, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range. He posted 31 points, eight boards, and a career-high seven assists in a 114-101 victory against Ursinus. He registered 17 points, five assists and two blocked shots in a 92-77 triumph against Ithaca.

Scadlock averaged a double-double of 18.5 points and 13.0 rebounds per game in a 2-0 week for the Ephs. He scored 25 points, on 9-of-15 shooting, and grabbed 13 rebounds in an 87-70 win over Union. He added 12 points and 13 rebounds in a 74-71 victory at Springfield.

Casey averaged 21.0 points per game in a 2-0 week. He shot 68.2 percent from the floor, 71.4 percent from 3-point range (10-for-14), and averaged 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game. He had 16 points and eight rebounds in a win over Wesleyan and added three assists and a steal. In a win at Fitchburg State, he scored 26 points in 21 minutes on 9-for-10 shooting from the floor, including a 7-for-8 effort from 3-point range.

Grassey was named the Carnegie Mellon DoubleTree Invitational MVP. In three wins last week, he averaged 15.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 steal per game. He shot 50 percent (9-for-18) from beyond the arc and went 10-for-12 at the free-throw line. Grassey posted 24 points, including six 3-pointers, nine rebounds and five assists in a 73-63 win against Transylvania. He added 13 points and eight boards in a 79-71 victory at Carnegie Mellon. He started the week with 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists in a 97-88 triumph at Bard.

Rogers helped the Jumbos win the Roger Williams’ Courtyard by Marriott Tournament and was named to the All-Tournament Team. In the championship game, Rogers exploded for 32 points and 17 rebounds, nine were offensive, as the Jumbos beat Roger Williams 88-84. He finished the week averaging a double-double of 20.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in 20.5 minutes per game. He also shot 63 percent from the floor and added four blocks.
