MEDFORD, Mass. – The Tufts University men's lacrosse team dominated in their NCAA Championship Second Round game against the United States Merchant Marine Acadmey, 25-8, Wednesday afternoon at Bello Field.

For the Mariners (14-3), Nick Treon picked up five points (two goals, three assists) to lead the team. Pat Coll added two more goals to bring his NCAA Championship total to 14. Nick Roros, Zacahary Mullins, and Jack Renard all scored once, while Tucker Dodson recorded a goal and an assist. Brendan Kane drew the start in goal and recorded 10 saves and Shannon Byrne II had seven in the final two quarters.

Tufts entered the game as the second seed on its side of the bracket. The Jumbos spent the entire frame on an 11-0 run while getting goals from nine different players, highlighted by two each from Connelly and Hattler.

The Jumbos continued the run into the second quarter, scoring the first two goals of the frame by Pollack and Hattler. That's where Merchant Marine would finally get into the scoring action when Coll, off of his 12-goal performance yesterday, found the back of the net to put the Mariners on the board. Merchant Marine would add two more over the next three minutes, the Tufts ended the quarter on a 4-0 run including two from Enchill, the second of which he scored after cutting through the defense, diving, and bouncing it passed the goalie.

The pace slowed a bit in the second half with the game pretty much already decided, but the third quarter did include three goals by Samuelson and Cunningham's second of his collegiate career and first since the fourth game of the season.

Merchant Marine outscored Tufts, 3-2, in the fourth quarter, but it was far too late to matter. The Jumbos utilized good ball movement on the offensive side to eat up the majority of the clock in the final frame.

Tufts moves on to the third round and will host Ithaca College here in Medford on Saturday after the Bombers' 15-12 win against Stevenson.
