BRUNSWICK, Maine - Three different Williams College players scored as the Ephs took their second straight NESCAC crown with 3-0 win over Amherst. The Ephs (14-3-0) gain the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, while the Jeffs (12-4-1) will hope to gain an at-large berth when pairings are announced late Sunday night.
The two teams traded early chances as the Ephs gained a free-kick from 30 yards out just two minutes into the contest. The ball was played into the box and cleared by Amherst, who drove down the field and saw a header by Tim Canon go high just two minutes later. Williams broke the scoreless tie at 39:37 when Khari Stephenson collected a ball in the middle of the field, deked one defender, and blasted a jaw-dropping drive from 25 yards out that found the top right corner for a 1-0 lead. Although the contest remained 1-0 into the break, the Lord Jeffs had an 11-4 advantage in shots at the half.
The second half started with a bang as Josh Bolton took a pass from the left flank, courtesy of Ryan Olsen, and netted it in the lower right corner for a 2-0 Williams lead just 32 seconds into the second half. 2000 and 2001 NESCAC Player of the Year Alex Blake sealed the win at 71:30, breaking into the open and lofting a shot over Amherst keeper Dan Glenn to close out the scoring. Glenn made seven saves in the loss, while Nick Armington played 83 minutes in goal for Williams, stopping seven shots.
