WORCESTER, Mass. - The Bates men's and women's rowing teams captured the NESCAC Championship for the third straight year. The Bobcats were the top NESCAC finishers in the varsity eight grand final races at the National Invitational Rowing Championships (NIRC) on Sunday at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. The Bobcat men captured their fourth overall title, while the Bobcat women claimed their fifth overall trophy.
In the women's grand final, the Bobcats crossed the finish line in a time of 6:46.525, seven seconds faster than Wellesley (6:53.397). Wesleyan (6:56.813) was second among NESCAC teams, fourth overall, while Hamilton finished sixth and third and among conference teams (7:01.109). Bates earns its fifth conference title in six years
The Bates men finished fourth in the grand final with a time of 6:04.305 to secure the Bobcats' fourth NESCAC title in five years. Hobart won the race with a time of (6:00.049). Trinity turned in a time of 6:17.287 to place sixth and was the only other NESCAC team to qualify for the grand final.
The Bates women's rowing team will receive an automatic invitation to the NCAA Rowing Championships at the Indianapolis Rowing Center in Indianapolis, Ind., May 31-June 2.
