2011 NESCAC Softball Players of the Week

Player of the Week
Megan Margel, Middlebury
(Senior, 1B - Ridgewood, N.J.)
Margel helped her Panther squad win its first NESCAC championship this past weekend at Tufts, hitting .556 (5-for-9) with a pair of doubles and four runs driven in. She drove in the winning run in Game Four of the tournament, a 2-0 victory over Tufts. During Sunday’s title game, Margel went 2-for-3 with three RBI, as both of her singles scored runs. In a 4-1 week, Margel batted .533 (8-for-15), with a .563 on-base percentage and a .733 slugging mark.
   
Pitcher of the Week

Elizabeth Morris, Middlebury
(First Year, LHP - Kenilworth, Ill.)
Morris came up big during the NESCAC Softball Championship this past weekend at Tufts, earning a win and a save while recording a 0.00 ERA. She got a save in Friday’s 2-1 win over Trinity. Morris followed on Sunday during the title game, claiming the win with 4.2 innings of one-hit ball and striking out seven. She went 2-1 overall last week, striking out 12 over 8.1 IP while holding opponents to a .138 average.

Player of the Week
Talia Bernstein, Wesleyan
(Senior, 1B - Miami, Fla.)
Bernstein batted .500 (8-for16) with seven RBIs in a 3-1 week for the Cardinals. In her final game at Wesleyan on Sunday, Bernstein hit two home runs and a double as part of a 4-for-5 effort. Her eight hits during the week moved her to 192 for her career, four more than the previous program mark. Bernstein ended the season riding an 11-game hitting streak, as she batted .437 in 2011.
   
Pitcher of the Week

Melissa DellaTorre, Bowdoin
(First Year, RHP - Scarborough, Maine)
DellaTorre did not allow a run over 22.2 innings in five appearances last week for the Polar Bears. Going 3-0 on the week, DellaTorre held opposing batters to a .173 average, as she gave up 13 hits and two walks while striking out 30. She tossed three complete game shutouts, including a pair of 1-0 wins over Bates and the Univ. of New England.

Player of the Week
Jessica Poracky, Middlebury
(Sophomore, C/1B - Ramsey, N.J.)
Poracky hit .529 (9-for-17) during a 5-0 week for the Panthers, who secured not only a postseason bid for the first time since 2005 but also gained the top seed out of the West Division on Friday with two wins over Amherst. She hit five doubles and a home run, scored eight runs, and drove in seven. Against the Jeffs, Poracky went 5-for-10 with three doubles and a home run.
   
Pitcher of the Week

Ali McAnaney, Middlebury
(Senior, RHP - Northbrook, Ill.)
McAnaney did not allow a single run in 11.0 innings pitched last week, going 2-0 over two appearances with one complete game as the Panthers locked up the top seed out of the West Division for the upcoming NESCAC Softball Championship. On Tuesday, McAnaney hurled a one-hit shutout in an 8-0 victory over Lyndon St., striking out 12. She earned the win in Friday’s 5-0 decision over Amherst, striking out six.

Player of the Week
Jessa Hoffman, Middlebury
(Sophomore, SS - Golden, Colo.)
Hoffman hit .526 (10-for-19) and slugged .947 as she belted five doubles and a home run during the Panthers’ 5-0 week, which included a 3-0 mark against Hamilton that put Middlebury atop the NESCAC West Division. She scored nine runs, drove in four, and had an on-base mark of .591. Against the Continentals over the weekend, Hoffman went 5-for-10 with eight runs scored and three doubles.
   
Pitcher of the Week

Melissa DellaTorre, Bowdoin
(First Year, RHP - Scarborough, Maine)
DellaTorre collected three wins and a save over five appearances, as the Polar Bears went 6-1 on the week. Bowdoin won its first-ever series against Tufts, 2-1, with DellaTorre at the helm in both wins. Over 23.0 IP, DellaTorre had a 1.83 ERA and held opposing batters to a .231 average, allowing 21 hits and four walks while striking out 28. In a 5-2 win over Southern Maine on Thursday, DellaTorre had 13 strikeouts.

Player of the Week

Toni DaCampo, Bowdoin
(Sophomore, SS - Woburn, Mass.)
DaCampo led the Polar Bears during a 5-0 week, which included a three-game series sweep of Colby. She batted .500 over the five games (8-for-16), had an on-base percentage of .529, slugged .813, and was flawless in the field. DaCampo scored five runs and drove in 10, hit a triple, and had a home run. Against the Mules over the weekend, DaCampo batted .600 with a home run and eight RBIs.
   
Pitcher of the Week

Kristen Anderson, Trinity
(Senior, RHP - West Haven, Conn.)
Anderson won both games she started last week, holding opposing batters to a .162 average over 18.0 IP and posting an ERA of 0.39 and a WHIP of 0.667. Over three appearances, Anderson allowed just one earned run on 11 hits and one walk while striking out seven. During Wednesday’s 13-0 win at Smith, Anderson allowed four hits over seven innings to earn the shutout.

Player of the Week

Jo Clair, Tufts
(First Year, Catcher - Glastonbury, Conn.)
During a 4-1 week, Clair batted .643 (9-for-14), had an on-base percentage of .684, and a slugging mark of 1.571. She hit four home runs, walked four times, scored seven runs and recorded 11 RBIs. During the three-game series sweep of Bates over the weekend, Clair went 7-for-8 with six runs scored, eight batted in, a double and three homers. In a 6-5, 9-inning win over Williams on Thursday, Clair was 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBIs.
   
Pitcher of the Week

Geena Constantin, Middlebury
(Senior, RHP - Pelham, N.H.)
Constantin went 3-1 over the Panthers’ spring break trip, recording an ERA of 0.47 and holding opposing batters to a .228 average over 15.0 IP. In four appearances, Constantin surrendered 13 hits and five walks while striking out 14 batters. During Saturday’s 8-0, 5-inning shutout of Wesleyan, Constantin allowed only four hits. At the plate, Constantin chipped in a .500 average (5-for-10) last week.

Player of the Week

Nicole Nardella, Trinity
(Senior, 1B - Beverly, Mass.)
Nardella batted .458 (11-for-24), slugged .708, and had an on-base percentage of .519 last week for the Bantams. She scored seven runs, drove in 10, had three doubles, a home run, and three walks. Nardella had two-hit games against five different opponents and committed just one error in 76 chances (.987). In an 8-0, no-hit win over Southern Maine, Nardella knocked in the first two runs of the game with a double and finished with four RBIs.
   
Pitcher of the Week

Kristen Anderson, Trinity
(Senior, RHP - West Haven, Conn.)
Anderson tossed a five-inning no-hitter with one strikeout and two walks in an 8-0 victory over Southern Maine on Wednesday. She appeared a total of three times last week (2-0, 1 SV) for the Bantams, recording a 0.64 ERA and holding opposing batters to a .088 showing at the plate over 11.0 IP as she allowed three hits, two walks, one earned run, and struck out six.

Player of the Week

Talia Bernstein, Wesleyan
(Senior, 1B - Miami, Fla.)
Bernstein batted .550 (11-for-20), reached base at a .625 clip, slugged .700, and posted a .981 fielding mark as Wesleyan closed out its spring break trip with a 3-3 showing last week. She scored seven runs and drove in six more. During the Cardinals’ 13-game swing through Florida, Bernstein batted .489 (22-for-45) with 16 runs scored, 13 driven in, three doubles, and two triples. She hit safely in all 13 games and struck out just once in 51 plate appearances.
   
Pitcher of the Week

Theresa Kelley, Amherst
(Sophomore, RHP - Los Angeles, Calif.)
Kelley posted a 3-3 record with a 2.44 ERA, held opponents to a .198 batting average, and recorded 42 strikeouts to lead the Jeffs’ pitching staff during the Gene Cusic Classic last week. Kelley appeared seven times and completed three games, tossing 28.2 innings for Amherst. She recorded a 6-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio during the week.
