MEDFORD, Mass. – The Amherst College softball team shutout Bowdoin, 4-0, in the quarterfinals of the NESCAC Softball Championship at Tufts University on Saturday.
Amherst (20-10) advanced to the semifinals to face archrival Williams. The Polar Bears finish their season with a record of 26-11.
The game deadlocked at 0-0, until Amherst plated three runs in the sixth inning to take the lead. Singles by Alyson Plaman and Sage Innerarity sparked the three-run rally for the Mammoths. Amherst added an insurance run in the seventh on an RBI double by Audrey Hansen in the seventh.
Bowdoin could only knock out two hits in the game with its best rally coming in the fourth inning when the Polar Bears put the first two runners on base but went down in order.
Lorena Ukanwa got the win for Amherst in the circle, permitting just two hits and striking out nine in a complete game effort. Ruby Siltanen took the loss, allowing three earned runs in six innings of work.
Eight different Mammoths recorded a hit in the game. Innerarity drove in two runs for Amherst, while Hansen reached base three times for Amherst. Kasey Cunningham and Maddie Rouhana had the hits for Bowdoin.
