CLINTON, N.Y. – Each top seed from the three first-round matches advanced to Saturday's quarterfinals at the 2014 NESCAC Men's Squash Championship held at Hamilton College's Little Squash Center on Jan. 31.
Colby College knocked off Hamilton College, 6-3, before Amherst College posted a 7-2 triumph against Connecticut College and Bowdoin College blanked Tufts University, 9-0.
No. 8 seed Colby got by host Hamilton thanks to three wins by Mule players that went to five games. Colby (9-8) also defeated the Continentals 6-3 at Amherst on Jan. 18. Hamilton is 3-2 in first-round matches against the Mules.
No. 7 seed Amherst (5-8) defeated the Camels by the same 7-2 score in last year's first round. The Lord Jeffs will make their eighth appearance in the quarterfinals. Conn. College's record dipped to 1-8 against NESCAC opponents.
No. 6 seed Bowdoin (8-8) is trying to make its third semifinal appearance since 2008. The Polar Bears also shut out Tufts on Nov. 23. Tonight's match was the first NESCAC Championship meeting between the programs.
The men's quarterfinal contests look like this: Trinity vs. Colby and Wesleyan vs. Middlebury at 9 a.m.; Williams vs. Bowdoin and Bates vs. Amherst at 10:30.
