WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Trinity Bantams (15-1) captured their ninth NESCAC Men's Squash Championship title in a row with a 9-0 win over the host Williams Ephs (13-8) on Sunday. It also marked the ninth time the Bantams defeated the Ephs in the NESCAC championship match.
The win by the Bantams extended their current season win streak to four and snapped an Eph four-match win streak. Trinity defeated Williams earlier this season, 9-0, in a match played in Hartford.
In the third-place match, the third-seeded Middlebury Panthers (12-7) were upset by the fourth-seeded Bates Bobcats (12-8) by a score of 6-3. In the regular season match-up played at Middlebury, the Panthers prevailed by a score of 6-3. Bates, however, was able to put that result aside and collect the win today.
The fifth-place match pitted the Colby Mules (9-5) against the Wesleyan Cardinals (12-7). The Cardinals posted a 5-4 win to claim fifth place in the tournament. Wesleyan had also captured the regular season match between the two teams, 5-4, back in early January.
The Bowdoin Polar Bears (4-14) and the Amherst Jeffs (6-10) met in the seventh-place match, and Bowdoin secured seventh place with a 5-4 win over Amherst. The Jeffs had edged the Polar Bears, 5-4, back on January 9 in a regular season contest.
