AMHERST, Mass. – Day one action at the 2017 NESCAC Women's Squash Championship featured two top-seed victories and one upset at the Davenport Squash Courts on the campus of Amherst College. Colby, Tufts and Bowdoin earned the right to advanced to Saturday’s quarterfinal round.
Ninth-seeded Colby (8-13) posted seven victories, including five 3-0 results, to upset No. 8 Wesleyan (9-8) to secure a 7-2 win. Colby advances and to the quarterfinals to face top-seeded Trinity beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, while Wesleyan moves into the consolation bracket and is slated to face Hamilton and Connecticut College at 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. at Smith College in Northampton, Mass.
No. 6 Tufts (14-3) dispatched No. 11 Connecticut College (5-12) in a 9-0 sweep. The Jumbos logged 3-0 match wins on six of the nine courts, while the Camels took a set each in the first, fifth and ninth spots. Tufts is set to battle No. 3 Middlebury on Saturday at 9:30 a.m., while Connecticut College will play Wesleyan and Hamilton in consolation action at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. at Smith College.
The final 2017 NESCAC Women’s Squash Championship Quarterfinal contest will feature fourth-seeded Bates College and fifth-seeded Amherst College beginning at 8 a.m. after both teams received first round byes.
