NESCAC Men's Squash Championship Day 1 Recap

CLINTON, N.Y. - Colby, Hamilton and Bowdoin emerged victorious in the first round of the 2018 NESCAC Men's Squash Championship at Hamilton's Little Squash Center on Friday night.

Colby (8-7 overall) recorded an 8-1 win against Wesleyan as seven matches ended after three games. The sixth-seeded Mules defeated the Cardinals by the same score earlier this season and Colby improved its record to 5-4 against Wesleyan in the NESCAC tournament. The 11th-seeded Cardinals (4-14) were attempting to advance to the quarterfinals for the eighth year in a row. The Mules take on No. 3 seed Williams in a quarterfinal on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. while Wesleyan moves on to the ninth-place round robin and a matchup with Tufts at Colgate on Saturday at noon.

Hamilton (6-8) is in the quarterfinals for the first time since 2013 after a 7-2 win against Connecticut College. The seventh-seeded Continentals swept four of the matches in three games and no match went to five games. Hamilton is still perfect in eight all-time NESCAC Championship matches against the Camels. Tenth-seeded Connecticut College (8-8) had won four straight going into this weekend and owned a 5-4 victory against the Continentals at home back on Jan. 13. Hamilton plays second-seeded Bates in a quarterfinal at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday and the Camels meet Tufts in the ninth-place round robin at Colgate on Saturday at 9 a.m.

Bowdoin (4-9) improved to 3-0 all-time against Tufts in NESCAC Championship history with a 6-3 win. Four of the Polar Bears' six wins went the full five games in a tightly contested match. Eighth-seeded Bowdoin notched its second 6-3 victory in less than a week against the ninth-seeded Jumbos (6-9). The Polar Bears are in the quarterfinals for the 12th straight year and this time they will face top-seeded Trinity at 8 a.m. on Saturday. Tufts plays Connecticut College and Wesleyan in the ninth-place round robin at Colgate on Saturday.

Saturday's other quarterfinal features fourth-seeded Middlebury against fifth-seeded Amherst at 8 a.m.
