NEW LONDON, Conn. - Fran Shields, Director of Athletics at Connecticut College, announced today that Lisa Vogeley has been named head coach of women's lacrosse.
"We are extremely fortunate to welcome a coach of Lisa Vogeley's caliber to Connecticut College," stated Shields. "Our committee was impressed with her experience as a Division I student-athlete and coach and the way she reinvigorated the Roger Williams program. We are confident that experience will go a long way to helping our program advance in the nation's toughest women's lacrosse conference. Lisa is the type of professional, mentor, and competitor our student-athletes need to reach the next level."
Vogeley comes to the New London campus after quickly turning the Roger Williams Women's Lacrosse program into a conference powerhouse, appearing in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship Game in all four seasons as head coach of the Hawks. Since 2014, the Hawks were 27-5 in the CCC under Vogeley. In 2016, Vogeley led the Hawks to their first CCC Championship in program history (8-0) and the program's first appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament. This success led to Vogeley being named the 2016 CCC Coach of the Year. Also in 2016, the CCC Offensive Player of the Year award and the 2016 CCC Rookie of the Year honor went to Roger Williams players.
"I am honored and thrilled to become part of the Connecticut College family," said Vogeley. "I would like to thank Athletic Director Fran Shields and the entire search committee for this incredible opportunity. I am excited to join the team and propel this program forward."
Vogeley's success at Roger Williams was felt off the field as well. Her four senior classes boast a 100 percent graduation rate and maintained a team GPA of 3.0 or above each season. In addition, in all four seasons, Vogeley's teams received IWLCA All-Academic Team Honors. In 2017 she was selected to serve on the IWLCA All-America Regional Committee.
Vogeley had an accomplished career as a Division I women's lacrosse player at Saint Mary's College of California. A defender, she was a three-year team captain and ranks fourth in school history in games started and sixth in games played. She graduated in 2007 with a degree in sports management. Prior to her tenure at Roger Williams, Vogeley was the assistant women's lacrosse coach at Saint Mary's for three seasons from 2010-2013. She worked primarily with the defense and goalies and was a key reason for Saint Mary's defensive success. In 2009, she received her Masters' Degree from Saint Mary's in sports studies.
