WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - No. 3 Williams (9-4-2, 6-3-1 NESCAC) earned a 3-2 victory in overtime to fend off No. 6 Connecticut College Camels (10-5-1, 5-4-1 in the NESCAC) in a NESCAC Quarterfinal match at Cole Field.
In the 12th minute of the game, Rain Condie dribbled down the middle of the field, and sent the ball diagonally down the left side of the field to Georgia Lord, who took a touch and her shot glanced off the goalie and into the back right corner of the net to give Williams a 1-0 lead.
In the 17th minute, a handball by Clare Tolliver at the top of the box allowed for Connecticut College's Marielle McEnaney to take a free-kick at the top of the penalty area. Her shot was redirected and landed in the back left of the net to even the score at 1-1.
Shortly after, in the 24th minute of the game, a foul by Connecticut College's Kat Norton on Victoria Laino 10 yards outside of the box gave the Ephs a free-kick. Laino's ball hit the underside of the crossbar and behind the goal line to push Williams back in front, 2-1. The Ephs would take the one-goal advantage into halftime.
Six minutes into the second half, Connecticut College's Tori Kretzmer passed the ball to Norton, who shot from the top of the box, and put the ball into the top left corner of the Williams goal, tying the game at 2-2. The score remained tied for the remainder of regulation and the game headed to overtime.
With the final seconds of the first overtime period winding down, a cross by Lord was redirected by a Connecticut College defender and landed in the back of the Camels' goal, ending the game, and giving the Ephs a 3-2 victory.
