MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Top-seeded Williams advanced to the NESCAC Championship match after a 5-1 win over fourth-seeded Bowdoin (13-5) on Proctor Courts at Middlebury College. The Ephs (19-0) will take on third-seeded Amherst for the NESCAC title at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Bowdoin held a 1-0 advantage in doubles play after Joulia Likhanskaia and Tiffany Cheng defeated Julia Cancio and Maria Pylypiv, 8-3, in the top spot. Williams tied the match when Rebecca Curran and Maya Hart downed Emma Chow and Pilar Giffenig, 8-5. Williams took a 2-1 lead into singles play when Juli Raventos and Linda Shin were 9-8 (7-4) victors in the second spot.
Pylypiv gave the Ephs a 3-1 advantage at #1 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Likhanskaia. Williams was within one when Raventos defeated Cheng 6-4, 6-2 in the #2 spot. Shin clinched the win with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Trinka at #3.
