2004 NESCAC Volleyball All-Conference Teams Announced

Young of Williams Named NESCAC Player of the Year

HADLEY, Mass. - For the second straight year, Williams senior outside hitter Robin Young was chosen by the conference coaches as both the 2004 NESCAC Volleyball Player of the Year and NESCAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Year. Young, a four-time all-conference first team selection, was the only player among the league’s top 10 in kills per game (3.69), digs per game (4.77) and service aces per game (.51).

Young was joined on the first team by Williams’ teammates Joyia Chadwick and Annie Denison. Chadwick, a senior middle blocker and four-time all-conference first-team honoree, posted a .434 hitting percentage which leads the conference and ranks fourth nationally. Chadwick also recorded 70 solo blocks while averaging 3.86 kills per game for the Ephs.

Denison, a junior outside hitter for Williams, led the league with 510 kills this season (4.43 k/g) while connecting on almost one third of her attacks (.311 hitting percentage).

Tufts sophomore Kelli Harrison repeats as a first-team selection. Harrison led the Jumbos and was among the league leaders in kills (3.38 per game) with a .309 hitting percentage while ranking second on the team in digs (3.55 per game) and solo blocks (25).

Amherst sophomore Kristin Quinn and Bates senior Olivia Zurek round out the first team selections. Quinn, the 2003 NESCAC Rookie of the Year, led the conference averaging 1.44 blocks per game and paced Amherst with 3.59 kills per game while recording a .426 hitting percentage. Zurek, a second team honoree a season ago, tied for first in the league averaging 4.43 kills per game while leading the league in attacks and placing sixth in hitting percentage (.313).

Tufts first year outside hitter Kay Lutostanski was named 2004 NESCAC Rookie of the Year. Lutostanski came on as the year progressed to finish second on the team averaging 2.07 kills per game will posting a .205 hitting percentage.

Tufts head coach Cora Thompson was honored as the NESCAC Coach of the Year. Thompson, in her third season with the Jumbos, led Tufts to a 9-1 conference record and a tied a school record 28 wins.
